ELLEN
CLEARLY

director of creative recruiting
Creative recruiting isn’t a job, it’s a passion. When I began to get my hands dirty in motion graphic design at the age of 15, I was convinced I’d be the next special FX artist on a big motion picture. WRONG.
It wasn’t until my typography class in college that I saw that everyone else’s kerning was far better than m i n e. [but really]. The design world fascinated me, and learning from those that excelled, excited me even more. Hence how I fell into a recruiting career, learning the tools and trends of the industry from those who received an ‘A’ in typography – or various relative fields that I LOVE to talk shop about, every day.
In 2000, Lori was recruited to Elan International which was a staffing company headquartered in London. Elan wanted to grow their presence in the United States, and brought Lori on as the General Manager in charge of Recruiting and Operations. In the year that Lori managed the US, she was able to grow revenues from $5 million to $15 million. Lori’s role was focused on recruiting executive-level candidates for clients in the Bay Area.
The best part? Now I get to teach a thing or two, to some awesome people, [creative recruiters] as well. Not all creatives are created equally; we’re all teaching each other, across the globe.
